I’m new to League and am more than aware I am not particularly good. I generally play support or top with my two ranked games both being as Rakan support. I decided to play a Ranked game for the first time and lost, with the screen at the end saying I was around Bronze III. In my second game, I discovered I was in a game with Gold level players and was flamed constantly and called out for not knowing the optimal items to build at a particular time and for being a few seconds slow to reach level six as a support early in the game despite the lane being even and the other support also not there yet.
Why does the game put unranked people in with Gold players during placements if that is far above the average? Do I need to just keep playing Draft Pick forever to avoid tilting people and having people int in ranked games? Originally posted by Yunavers. Gold is average? I’m not sure they’re right and I’m also not sure they’re wrong. I’d be wary of where Reddit collects their data.
Originally posted by cavecricket You can’t insert new players into the ranked system at an MMR different from the average without inflating or deflating the overall MMR of the system, because MMR gains and losses across teams are 0-sum. The only way to insert new players into ranked with a lower MMR would be to artificially add inflationary elements elsewhere in the ranked system, which is significantly more complex than just letting players enter in with the average MMR and a high K-value so they quickly correct to where they should be.

After facing nearly an entire season of complaints, lead game play designer Mark “Scruffy” Yetter and designer Jonathan “IAmWalrus” Moormann responded to high elo players’ concerns with matchmaking fairness. Scruffy and IAmWalrus didn’t disclose exactly what Riot is planning to do, but the general idea is that in exchange for longer queue times, matchmaking will be adjusted to group skilled players with teammates closer to their MMR.
A change like this would likely be implemented closer to Preseason, since it could drastically affect those making the final push to reach their ranked goals at the end of Season Nine. At the beginning of Season Nine, the ranked ladder faced serious issues of inconsistent and absurdly high LP gains, as well as unbalanced teams in matchmaking.
This was partially due to the introduction of positional ranks, but was also attributed to the addition of the Grandmaster rank and swap to four tiers per rank. Riot responded to this problem by implementing a ladder reset in March for players ranked Diamond IV and above and removing positional ranks. Even after a potential solve was implemented, however, disparities in the matchmaking system continue to persist.
High elo players and pros alike have been incredibly vocal about their frustrations. Riot plans to run thorough tests on the new system, so the issue can be solved properly. On the flip side, Diamond players won’t have to prepare for an instant loss when matched against LCS players. Hide Scores. Find us elsewhere:. Home Matches Tournaments Forum.
League of Legends players want these ranked changes for Season 11
Yesterday, Riot Games Support’s official Twitter account tweeted that the climb through ranked games have intentionally been made longer to discourage smurfing. Yetter added that throughout this whole year, League of Legends players will be seeing improvements to ranked and matchmaking. While these statements did bring some relief knowing that nothing has been changed to ranked matchmaking, most players including me are wondering why League Points are easy to lose but difficult to gain.
It has also been reported that players have been matched with other players in vastly different ranks ELOs, making some games extremely stacked against the “weaker” team. Just to clarify something – we did not slow down the ranked climb for season 10 to combat smurfs Currently s10 should not be different than s9 in terms of matchmaking and climb.
League of Legends’ Lead Producer on Gameplay, Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee explains that the climb has not been intentionally slowed down to.
Im just wondering about the win rate. So lets say i play my first matches or whatever then i decide to play ranked. I have won all of my placement matches and lost almost all of them and seems to put me roughly in the same place. So lets say I end up silver 2. If i win 20 in a row and move up a bunch then i will start losing a bunch and end up right where i was. If this is not how it works someone plz explain.
I play with people all the time who i constantly out stat and play but they are in way better leagues then i am not that im any good just saying. I dont understand how i am supposed to move out of my league seems impossible. Every time i do i seem to hit a real bad losing streak even though i am still keeping up with people and end up right back where i was. The matchmaker itself tries to create matches where both teams are of roughly equal MMR. You still effect the outcome of the match.
Or am i just thinking about this wrong. Or even 4. I find I win way more in that kind of setup.

Matchmaking is the existing automated process in League of Legends that matches a player to and against other players in games. The system estimates how good a player is based on whom the player beats and to whom the player loses. It knows pre-made teams are an advantage, so it gives pre-made teams tougher opponents than if each player had queued alone or other premades of a similar total skill level Riot Games Inc.
The basic concept is that the system over time understands how strong of a player you are, and attempts to place you in games with people of the same strength. As much as possible, the game tries to create matches that are a coin flip between players who are about the same skill. The Matchmaking System works along with a modified version of the Elo system. From there, the game is played. If a player wins, the player gain points.
On the contrary, if the player loses, he loses points. If the win was “unexpected” i. There are some problems with this, but it generally works out, especially if people use pre-mades a little bit. The System do a few little things to nudge the Elo rating in the right direction when you start out so that people get where they need to get faster. Additionally, newer players gain and lose points more rapidly so that they are able to play in their skill level faster.
Over time, this means that good players end up high rated because they do better than the system expects, until the system is guessing correctly how often they will win.

These matchmaking flaws are frustrating to CSGO players, which is bad for the game, bad for player retention, and ultimately bad for the CS esports community.

It can also feel like these allies appear at the least opportune times, but getting bad teammates like these at critical times is just an urban myth, for the most part. We think this is the right tradeoff compared to having a volatile rank—being demoted feels rough, and reaching a tier should be a decent indication that you can play at that level.

Read our post and get the inside scoop on the Dota 2 ranking system. Learn about ranked matchmaking and matchmaking rating MMR. Like any other competitive online multiplayer title these days, Dota 2 has its very own ranking system integrated into its own matchmaking queue. Ranked matches in Dota 2 put players into specified competitive tiers, in the form of leagues with associated medals. Winning games increases the count, and hitting percent causes the counter to roll over and award the player with an additional level.
The system will then place them in the next tier, with a one-star medal. In order to get their ranks, players must complete a string of ten ranked matchmaking games, which are dedicated for calibrating their rating. After the calibration matches are completed, players are assigned to leagues based on their wins and losses throughout the ten games.
